Spied: Massive Going Out of Business Furniture Sale

Oriental Rugs and Interiors is going out of business after seven years at 1245 San Carlos Avenue.  A 40-50%-off closeout sale began last week (scroll down for pics), but unlike other liquidation sales, you can still place orders for discounted, custom furniture until the last day of business at the end of October.

Owner Ben Tascian says he’ll still have a warehouse even after closing and will deliver the furniture, all made in the USA by top brands like Lane, Rowe and Zocolo.

On the afternoon the LSS stopped by, a huge, dramatic, dark gray modern sectional sofa in a can’t-resist-touching-it-texture was priced at $2,395, marked down from $4,295.  There were also some stylish yet sturdy accent chairs priced at $189.  Some floor models are discounted an additional 10-20%.  Besides lamps, coffee tables, and dark wood bedroom sets by Lane, you’ll also find plenty of recliners and stacks and stacks of hand-knotted rugs.

The building at 1245 San Carlos is owned by the City of San Carlos Redevelopment Agency and is destined to become part of Wheeler Plaza project, which proposes to, “replace the existing surface parking and existing buildings with a new mixed-use development featuring underground parking, ground level retail, and condominium housing above.”  Additional community meetings will be held after an environmental review is done.

Owner Ben Tascian said considering the changes ahead for the retail property his store now occupies, it was time to retire.

From Soy Milk to Furniture that space has always seemed unsuccessful.Seems like a hard fit for such a large space maybe a Gym could fill that space?

Peter…If I remember correctly, the space was also a dot-com of some sort back in the day. It’s destined to become part of Wheeler Plaza – if that indeed goes forward – so not sure if the City will lease out that space again…

I have tried to lease the place to a gym company however the City of San Carlos has made it impossible to lease the place.
