Italian Cafeteria & Private Party Room, Too

619 Laurel Street (Destined to become Limone)

Recession? Apparently, some San Carlos restaurants haven’t heard of the R-word, like Locanda Positano. The Amalfi Coast pizzeria (and more) hasn’t been open a year yet and is already expanding into the space next door.

“We’re so busy we can’t accommodate parties over 20,” said manager Vittorio D’Urzo.

In fact, D’Urzo says the restaurant on the busy north end of Laurel has fielded so many requests for big private parties that it decided it needed a “beautiful banquet room” that could handle up to sixty people.

The new space at 619 Laurel will have its own kitchen. And that’s not all. Fronting the big party room will be Limone, described as a traditional “Italian cafeteria,” serving breakfast and lunch.

The menu will include espresso, cappuccino, homemade croissants, fresh Italian salami, sandwiches and salads.

D’Urzo  says he’s not sure if Limone – Italian for Lemon – will stay open for dinner. If everything goes according to plan, the Italian cafeteria is set to open in December or January.

Locanda Positano is the first solo endeavor by Southern Italian Enzo Rosano, who opened Mezza Luna in Half Moon Bay. Rosano is also a principal at popularAquaPazza which opened in San Mateo in 2008.
