Shellie Kazan, owner of Shellie’s Miniature Mania, readily admits to getting totally carried away with the whole Christmas thing this year.
Her shop at 732 Laurel has been closed since after Halloween so she could transform the place into, well, you’ll just have to see it yourself. It’s Christmas gone crazy. In a fun way.
First, there’s the mystical dragon popping out of a mirror in the front window.
Inside, there’s a traditional tree, several French themed trees and a “fun tree” covered with (highly) unusual ornaments: penguins, beetles, flamingos, a walrus and even a whale.
“You have to be outrageous to get people to stop,” Kazan said from atop a ladder, her her hair and face covered with a light dusting of glitter.
The new strategy paid off. “People really like it,” she said, adding the key is finding unusual, charming but reasonably priced pieces.
“We’re diversifying, it’s what we need to do these days” to keep running a successful small business,” Kazan explained.
Shellie’s reopens Saturday, November 5th at 10:30 am and closes at 5pm.
Check out the Laurel Street Spy’s Facebook page…posted more photos, including incredible dragon ornament.
Other signs of the impending holidays on Laurel Street:
Christmas in PINK in the front window at Shelby’s Garden…on the other side: silver and gold. Gorgeous displays, as usual.
Dona’s Hallmark Store is having a Holiday Open House that runs through Sunday, November 6th: keepsake ornaments and recordable storybooks on sale (anyone see that Modern Family episode?)
