Latest Results for Close City Council Race

Just when you thought last week’s election was over and done…another update.

The San Mateo County Office of Elections has released the latest results. When election night wrapped up, about 20,000 votes still needed to be counted, including some 13,000 that had been dropped off on November 8th.

The one to watch in San Carlos is, of course, the contest for city council in which School Board trustee Mark Olbert took the lead in a tight race, with insurance businessman Ron Collins close on his heels and incumbent Randy Royce failing to regain his seat.

As of 4:30pm Tuesday, November 15th:

Mark Olbert (34.96%) 3,516 total votes [2,680 on Nov. 8]

Ron Collins (33.86%) 3,406 total votes [2,648 on Nov. 8]

Randy Royce (31.18) 3,136 total votes [2,358 on Nov. 8]

David Tom, San Mateo County Elections Manager, says the latest results should include most of the ballots except for the 2,300 provisional ballots cast countywide, which are used to record a vote when there’s some question about the voter’s eligibility.

Tom says Thursday’s update should have the final count although official certification won’t happen on that day.
