Race for City Council: Endorsement Watch
By debramonroe on Oct 19, 2011 with Comments 2
Here’s a quick look at organizational endorsements for City Council: The San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff’s Association has given its official approval to incumbent Randy Royce and businessman Ron Collins.
If you want to know where the San Mateo County Fire Fighters Local 2400 stands on the candidates, as a member of the San Mateo County Central Labor Council AFL-CIO, it’s going with the Labor Council’s formal endorsements of Ron Collins and SC School Board trustee Mark Olbert. (Some candidates receive an emphatic “No!” next to their crossed-out name, like Michael Stogner running for San Mateo Community College District; Royce has “Open,” which means he did not get a formal endorsement)
The San Mateo County Association of Realtors is endorsing Randy Royce and Ron Collins.
Mark Olbert is the only candidate to receive the endorsement of the San Mateo County Democratic Party.
Chuck McDougald, Chairman of the San Mateo County Republican Party, says his organization has endorsed two candidates for City Council in San Carlos, but he can’t announce the names because as of this morning the candidates hadn’t indicated whether they’ll accept an official, public endorsement. (Since Mark Olbert is “taken” by the other party…)
“Some candidates don’t want anybody to know we’re endorsing them,” McDougald said of races in San Mateo County, noting they’re non-partisan.
San Mateo County is strongly Democratic in presidential and congressional elections.

Hal…my understanding is that candidates are interviewed and then notified if they’ve received the endorsement. When I made my calls, I asked for endorsements in
San Carlos…but only City Council candidates were mentioned.
